London practice A-nrd has just finished the design for Cocotte Richmond, the newest addition to the free-range healthy rotisserie restaurant chain. Situated in the popular South West London riverside town of Richmond, the interior concept for the 62-seat restaurant combines a rich palette of organic materials in warm, natural tones to create a welcoming and cozy atmosphere for the new neighborhood eatery.
Upon stepping into the restaurant, guests are immediately captivated by the studio’s use of color, texture, and bespoke design. The walls feature a limewash finish with a grey lower half and a warmer, blush tone on the upper half and ceiling, creating a cocooning foundation for the entire scheme.
At the front of the restaurant, the seating includes a large wall-to-wall bespoke sofa-style booth designed by A-nrd studio. Crafted from oak and upholstered in Kirkby Design’s Spiral, a recycled weave in a contemporary ochre, the booth is paired with complementary dining chairs featuring a contrasting hued seat pad upholstered in Sunbury Design’s Hardy Satchel. Custom tables designed by the studio in square and rectangular form feature a creamy white terrazzo resin surface framed by oak and grounded by solid black bases.
Large oak mirrors decorate the walls, breaking the expanse, while lighting across the restaurant is provided by a mix of architectural track lighting and spun brass pendant lights.
The central focal point of the space is the bar area, defined by terracotta hued ceramic tiles that create a dynamic contrast with the oak flooring of the restaurant. The sculptural bespoke bar is highlighted by a chunky solid oak base that showcases the natural beauty of the timber. A golden terrazzo resin adds both pattern and color to the façade, complemented by an oak surface to complete the custom piece. The ceramic counter-top lights invite guests to sit at the four mustard hued upholstered leather bar stools.
Adjacent to the bar, there are additional booth seating and tables. Paper and brass accent wall lighting is framed by oak timber panels, utilizing the vertical wall space effectively through a custom design approach.
As one moves towards the rear of the restaurant, the interior transitions into a moodier and more atmospheric ambiance. An open kitchen counter is incorporated into the rear plan, with the kitchen façade featuring the same golden terrazzo resin seen at the bar, visually connecting the different areas. Terracotta tiles are also used to clad the wall of the oak waiter station, maintaining consistency in the material palette throughout the space.
The booth seating in this establishment is surrounded by walls and curves around the interior architecture. The bases of the seating are crafted from oak and have a more sculptural shape compared to those at the front of the restaurant. They are upholstered in an olive-green textile from Casamance. A long bespoke wall mirror on the wall adds visual interest to the limewashed plaster. The original brickwork has been left exposed, enhancing the cozy and casual atmosphere of the area.
A-nrd has created a welcoming and laid-back ambiance for this charming restaurant in South West London. By subtly incorporating materials and shapes used in previous Cocotte restaurants, the new location feels both familiar and refreshing, with a sophisticated yet minimal interior design style.
